Spring Cleaning

SPRING IS FINALLY HERE! NOW THAT WE ARE ALL ON LOCK DOWN ITS A GREAT TIME TO START DEEP CLEANING YOUR HOME. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO DO IS DON’T STRESS. CLEANING SHOULD BE A STRESS RELIEVER. THE BEST WAY TO GET RID OF ANXIETY IS TO CLEAN A ROOM. THAT’S THE MOST IMPORTANT THING ABOUT SPRING CLEANING IS A FRESH NEW START. AND WE COULD ALL USE A NEW START RIGHT NOW. SO START NOW, DON’T WAIT, AND DON’T PUT A TIMELINE ON YOURSELF. IF YOU CAN DO ONE ROOM A DAY THAT WOULD BE A GREAT START. AND BEFORE YOU KNOW IT YOUR ENTIRE HOUSE IS FINISHED.

1 – FIRST THING FIRST, DECLUTTER. THE VERY FIRST THING THAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN IS TO DECLUTTER THE ROOM YOU ARE STARTING WITH. THEN WORK FROM THE TOP OF THE ROOM TO THE BOTTOM OF THE ROOM. COBWEBS ON THE CEILING TO SCUFF MARKS ON THE WALLS AND THEN CLEANING OF THE BASEBOARDS TO THE FLOOR. IF YOU WORK FROM TOP TO BOTTOM YOUR NOT GOING TO MISS ANY DIRTY SPOTS.

2 – SUPPLIES. NOW THAT WE KNOW OUR PLAN OF ACTION HOW ABOUT OUR SUPPLIES. MY FAVORITES ARE A VACUUM AND A SWIFFER WET JET MOP. I HAVE TWO DOGS AND A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD BOY THAT ARE ALWAYS MAKING MESSES, AND THE BEST THING I HAVE EVER USED WAS THE SWIFFER WET JET. I HAVE TRIED SO MANY MOPS AND ITS BY FAR THE EASIEST OF THEM ALL. NO MESSY WATER BUCKET, NO STINKY MOP HEAD. ITS AS EASY AS STICK A PAD, SPRAY THE SOLUTION, WIPE AND THROW AWAY.  ANOTHER ONE OF MY FAV’S IS DAWN DISH SOAP. IT’S SO GENTLE ITS USED ON ANIMALS FOR OIL SPILLS BUT YET CAN CLEAN ANYTHING YOU THROW AT IT. MIX A LITTLE DAWN WITH A WET WASHCLOTH AND YOUR SURFACES WILL BE UNBELIEVABLY CLEAN AND HEALTHY FOR YOUR KIDS TO EAT OFF.  I WOULD ALSO RECOMMEND METHOD BRAND ALL PURPOSE (PURPLE) CLEANER. METHOD PURPLE CLEANER NATURALLY DERIVED ALL-PURPOSE CLEANER. I BUY THIS STUFF IN BULK. IT DOESN’T HAVE A CHEMICAL TYPE FEEL OR SMELL TO IT AND CLEANS BETTER THAN THE CHEMICALS DO. OTHER SUPPLIES THAT ARE AMAZING ARE THE NORWEX CLEANING CLOTHS. THEY ARE MICROFIBER CLOTHS THAT ARE ANTI-BACTERIAL. THE MICROFIBER PICKS UP EVEN THE TINIEST ORGANISMS WHEN ITS WET. AND ONCE YOU RINSE THE CLOTH OUT ALL THE GERMS GO WITH IT. I WISH THEY MADE THEM IN KID’S CLOTHES. FOR YOUR SCUFF MARKS YOU’LL WANT TO USE MAGIC ERASER. ITS EASY AND EFFECTIVE.

3 – RUGS + CARPETS. RUGS AND CARPETS ARE ALWAYS HARD. LEAVE THESE ITEMS FOR LAST AS THEY ARE GOING TO TAKE LONGER TO DRY. I LOVE TO USE ARM + HAMMER PET FRESH CARPET ODOR ELIMINATOR. I LOVE THIS STUFF! IT’S A MAGICAL DUST THE MAKES ALL THE BAD SMELLS IN YOUR HOME DISAPPEAR. USE THIS POWDER ALL OVER YOUR CARPETS, LET SIT FOR A COUPLE OF MINUETS AND THEN VACUUM AWAY. FOR YOUR RUGS YOU CAN USE DAWN SOAP AND A SCRUB BRUSH. THEN LEAVE THE RUG IN THE SUN TO DRY. FOR HARD WOODS I USE MR. CLEAN MULTI-PURPOSE CLEANER WITH FEBREZE. WONDERFUL CLEANING SOLUTION THAT CLEANS GREAT AND SMELLS EVEN BETTER.

4 – LIST OF THINGS TO BE FIXED. MAKE A LIST OF EVERY LITTLE THING. FROM FILLING IN PIN HOLES IN THE WALL, TO BIG ITEMS THAT NEED TO BE TAKEN CARE OF. EITHER YOU TUBE A VIDEO TO HELP YOU FIX THE ITEMS YOURSELF OR PASS THIS OFF TO YOUR PARTNER TO DO. NOT ONLY WILL IT GET THE ISSUES FINISHED BUT IT TAKES SOME PRESSURE OFF YOUR BACK.

How to reach new photography clients….

Sometimes knowing what you want to do and doing it are two different things. When you finally figure out what kind of photographer you are, you can then decide where you market yourself.

1 – what kind of photographer are you?

This is so important not only to gain the “right” kind of client but knowing where to find those right clients. If you’re a family photographer, you need to find that perfect client.  So how do I do that already??? Its all about social media. When you’re a small business and you run it, yourself you need to tap into the marketing that is going to work for you. It’s too easy to Share a post or like it and have all your friends see it. Be a stalker for like ten minuets and go through Facebook. Mutual friends of mutual friends.

2. Using Facebook for finding new clients –

A – find friends of friends, take a look at their friend count and how many are mutual friends. You want to tap into those people that don’t know you yet. So, the people with 1,000+ friends offer them a free photo session. Check their Facebook pages for professional pictures. Either they keep their pictures to themselves or they don’t have a regular family photographer. Be that family photographer

B – send a message on Facebook – Tell them you saw you have mutual friends and want to offer them a free session. Leave them your website and contact info. If they want it, they will take the bait.

C – Post a Competition or drawing – This is so easy to get new clients. Post a simple drawing stating if they like your post they get one entry if they like and share your post they get two entries… you’ll reach so many people this way especially if they want the session bad they will share and now you’ve reached all of their friends too. After the competition is over go through everyone that has entered and see who fits your clientele the best and who would bring in more of the perfect clients that you want and meet your brand. P.S. invite all who liked your post to like your page. Your page likes will go through the roof!!!

D – Post that you need models – Super easy way to get new people. Post on your page and mom group pages. Ask for models for promotional free shoots, everyone wants a free session. You’ll be amazed at how many people come out of the woodwork.

3 – Collaborating with companies –

A – Reach out to companies… Boutiques, small businesses, restaurants, bloggers, etc. offer free session. Not only do you get more pictures to post on your website and social media but all these businesses will post the photos you took and anyone that follows them will see your photos and you’re more likely to book off of their free session.

            B – Wedding Collaborations –

For Wedding photographers’ collaborations are super important. It’s a way to touch so many people at one time. I would meet other wedding vendors at bridal shows and then set up collaborative shoots. I would get a bridal shop for dresses, florist, venue, videographers, hair and makeup artists and the models I used were usually parents or teens that I thought could pull it off and I would offer the photos I took to them for free for a portfolio. Everything was on trade and nothing was paid for, so all the companies that worked together would get all the photos for free. Therefore it’s so important to make friends and or be friendly with everyone you meet because you never know who is asking questions about you or what project they might need a photographer for.

In conclusion work for free but make it smart. Use people and places that have a ton of followers and friends. Make sure its your type of client and brand enhancing opportunity.

4 – Bridal Shows –

Bridal shows are amazing! However, they are just as expensive as they are amazing. They are also a lot easier to get into then you think. Just google bridal shows near me and the companies are going to pop up. Email them or contact them on their website. They will contact you back immediately and will probably never stop bothering you. Finding the right bridal show is just like finding the right client. Does it fit your brand or your look? The clients that come to these shows will they be able to afford my prices and like my style. Do your research, check the shows reviews and how much advertising they do. For as expensive as these shows are you are almost guaranteed to find new clients at these shows. Check out my how to have a successful bridal show blog coming soon.

5 – Always update your photos –

As you shoot, you learn new techniques and how to look at things differently. So every time you have a session that is to your standard post it everywhere. Facebook, Insta, website. Always be consistent and post the content that best represents your brand and the look you’re going for.

All in all, be consistent, work your butt of to get yourself out there and then continue to stay consistent and push your work.

How to organize your Christmas Ornaments

How do I stay organized and keep my precious Christmas Ornaments safe? Its finally over, the multiple Christmas get togethers and all the fun festivities. But now your ready to decompress and get the clutter out of the house. First thing to go in my house is the Tree. I’ll wait till New Years Eve before I start to deconstruct my tree (even though my husband wants it up till Valentine’s). I always take our most valuable ornaments down first. Our family ornaments that you look forward to seeing every year and for some reason never remember they are in the same box with all the other ornaments.

General ornament packing tools – I’ve seen everything from bubble wrap to paper towels to even Christmas towels wedged in-between your breakable ornaments. But now a days we have better options.

ORNAMENT CONTAINERS!!! I love containers of any size and shape. They are an organizers dream. Amazon.com offers all different kinds from thick fabric containers with sections, to hard plastic storage bins.

Here are my fav’s –

One I love is the Sterilite 48 Quart Holiday Christmas 45 Ornament Storage Box for $19.99 – I love the fact that this bin is plastic and no matter what kind of storage its going to be in it will be safe!

My Favorite is the Premium Christmas Ornament storage Box with Lid – 3-inch Compartment, Storage Container Keeps 64 Holiday Ornaments and Xmas Decorations Accessories. This thing is so cute! I love that it fits so many ornaments safely in the cutest little container. And its only $14.99.

Let me know what you think. What is your best idea for storing your Christmas Ornaments?
